Nothing changes if nothing changes. This is my motto that I live by and I empower and encourage my clients to begin to think and live the same way. I am an experienced therapist that uses an eclectic approach when treating my clients. Each person is unique, and everyone walked down a different path – so I tailor my treatment approach the same way. I am solution focused and use a strength-based approach. I am EMDR trained and I interweave CBT with motivational interviewing. My passion as a therapist is working with those with addiction disorders. I am certified to also work with victims of domestic violence and have experience working with those struggling with depression, bipolar, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, family conflict, marital discord, and parenting issues. The most rewarding experience however, is when I get to witness the positive change that will start emanating from you. You will feel more empowered and more in control of your life, and I will be here to help you with this journey. “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” -Gandhi

Joanne Laush MSW, LSW
In my professional capacity as a licensed social worker and psychotherapist, I have had the honor and privilege to accompany persons of all ages and backgrounds in their quest for insight and self-discovery. I believe that trust and vulnerability are at the core of the client-therapist relationship and that the client’s innate wisdom and judgment rule supreme. With that in mind, strategies and interventions in achieving clearly defined yet dynamic goals and objectives arise through a process of critical inquiry and self-exploration. An individual through their behavior informs on what is needed in reaching optimal functioning. This, of course, is simply stated as core beliefs, thoughts and emotions impact the outcome as well.
My role is to support clients as they learn to tap into their innate abilities to sort through their thoughts and emotions and create and incorporate viable solutions that reflect on self and its relationship with its multiple milieux. The client learns to simultaneously and effectively engage, adapt and stay connected to their truth, their Ikigai, their reason for being.
To paraphrase a great ancient philosopher, Lao Tzu,
“At the center of your being you have the answer; you know who you are and you know what you want.”
I take an integrative approach borrowing from various schools of thought in creating a treatment plan that addresses the needs and goals of the individual, couple and family. Some of these approaches include psychodynamic, interpersonal, cognitive behavioral, mindfulness-based and rational emotive behavioral therapies in conjunction with complementary techniques such as hypnosis, Emotional Freedom Technique, Psychodrama and play therapy.
Reach out to me for further inquiry on my approach and expertise. And, as you journey through life, I wish you well, I wish you awe, I wish you joy.
“Don’t think about why you question, simply don’t stop questioning. Don’t worry about what you can’t answer, and don’t try to explain what you can’t know. Curiosity is its own reason. Aren’t you in awe when you contemplate the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure behind reality? And this is the miracle of the human mind — to use its constructions, concepts, and formulas as tools to explain what man sees, feels and touches. Try to comprehend a little more each day. Have holy curiosity.” – Albert Einstein

”Be the change you want to see” is not a one-size-fits-all therapy mantra, but a verified life skill I have honed in my clients.
I enjoy working together with all age groups for individual, couple, or family therapy. Through my training in the EFT therapy model, my client’s positive life shifts were successfully prompted with careful guidance. Leading with compassion, I’ve assisted in unraveling life- binding issues like depression, anxiety, personality disorder, trauma, domestic violence, and many other mental health challenges.
By utilizing a variety of modalities, I custom tailor my treatment to the needs of each client. The various therapy models I engage include Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and individuals, CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic treatments.
With my nonjudgmental and empathetic approach, we can work together to find your inner strengths and reach goals.
The current pandemic crisis has put a magnifying glass on many behavioral and relationship issues. Allow this time to be a catalyst for the changes you want to see in your life.

“Ask for help. Not because you are weak, but because you want to remain strong.” Knowing when to reach out and ask for help is a HUGE step in your journey to healing – and look, here you are! As a therapist, I understand that therapy is not a “one size fits all” service and I strive to walk alongside my clients as they seek emotional well-being. It is my job to collaborate with you, the expert, while guiding and empowering you to identify and reach attainable goals in a safe, comfortable and non-judgmental environment.
After obtaining my Masters degree from Rutgers University, I have had the opportunity to work with children, teens and adults doing in-home and school-based counseling, as well as counseling at non-profit agencies. I utilize a holistic, person-centered and strengths-based approach because every client comes with their own unique experiences and stories.
Life can be tough, but so are you! I have experience working with children, teens and adults and my goal is to help you feel comfortable, heard and valued as we work together to build on your strengths! By taking this first step, you are beginning your own personal journey! I aspire to support and empower you, one step at a time!
